Finding your way around the ship

• Vessel (a ship or large boat) – судно.

У вас, наверняка, возникнет вопрос: «А почему?». Однозначного ответа не существует, и большая часть объяснений сводится к выводу, что такова традиция языка. Но мне понравилось и запомнилось одно из объяснений, гласящее, что моряки всегда скучают по женщинам, наличие которых на корабле, как известно, — дурная примета, тогда и прозвали они корабль she. Вот такая странная любовь. :-)

Man overboard!

This can happen any time. If someone falls overboard it’s necessary to take an immediate action. First, shout “MAN OVERBOARD” and throw him a life buoy. A life buoy or a life-jacket will help the man to survive until he is rescued.

If you get overboard, get clear of the ship and continue shouting and splashing the water as long as there is a chance that you will be heard or seen. Then swim on your back to keep the body warm. Do not panic!

Abandon your ship

lf for some reason a ship is going to sink the сrew and passengers must abandon it. Only the Masteг* сan deсide when and if the ship will be abandoned. He will give the сommand: “Prepaгe to abandon the ship on the staгboaгd (or poгt) side”. Put on youг life jacket and гun to the musteг station foг staгboaгd (poгt) side wheгe life boats and life гafts are. When the ship is abandoned everything possible will be done to rescue the crew and passengers as soon as possible.

Cruise Today Report: Allure of the Seas (Очарование морей)

‘Not content with having the largest cruise ship in the world Royal Caribbean have built an even bigger one. Well, ok it’s only 5 centimeters longer but that does officially make the Allure of the Seas the largest cruise ship in the world!

Like it sister-ship the Oasis of the Seas the Allure will carry passengers on week-long cruises around the Caribbean wowing them with new on-board activities, great entertainment and fabulous places to eat and shop.

The Allure is the ship that feels more like a floating town. It’s 16 decks high, carries nearly five and a half thousand passengers and like most towns is divided into neighborhoods. In central park you can shop in upmarket boutiques, eat a meal in one of many specialty restaurants or just find a quiet spot under a shady tree and, yes, those are real trees.

Well over on the Boardwalk you’ll find two of the largest rock climbing walls at sea, a carousal and even a hot dog stand. Here at the centre of the ship looking more like a glitzy shopping mall is the royal promenade where you find shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment on two levels.

The pool-and-sports zone is a fun-filled space that takes up an entire deck and features several pools and whirlpools plus of course two flow-riders. But for the ultimate thrills the zip-line is a must!

The Vitality At Sea spa and fitness centre is a neighborhood dedicated to make you look and feel great. You’ll find a state-of-the-art fitness centre, full service spa and a range of treatments to suit everyone.

Entertainment Place is a neighborhood filled with, well, entertainment – from a casino with over 450 slot-machines and 27 gaming tables. Studio B which will host one of the kind ice shows and 1300 capacity Amber Theatre which will feature hit musical Chicago for the very first time at sea.

Kids are positively spoilt for choice here on the Allure with the Youth zone. Here kids of all ages can hang-out, have fun, learn and make new friends. Activities and dedicated spaces for certain age groups and professional staff are always on the hand to supervise leaving parents worry free.

When it comes to choosing your stateroom you’ll be spoilt for choice. There are over thirty seven categories to choose from and this is the most popular – the Superior Ocean View With Balcony. You get a very decent size shower room just in here, plenty of closet space, sitting area, vanity unit, nice i-Pod dock, flat screen TV and a very comfortable bed.

Food is never going to be far from your mind on the Allure and the Royal Caribbean have pulled up all the stops to bring their guests the most choice that ever to be found on cruise ship. Some of the many highlights include Rita’s Cantina for Mexican, 150 Central Park is a trendy upscale restaurant and exclusive to Allure of the Seas is Samba Grill, the Brazilian Churrascaria where guests can choose from a variety of meats, chicken and seafood brought table-side by waiters ready to slice and serve upon request.

I just can’t help but wondering if in this time of world recession Royal Caribbean may have overstretched itself launching its another ship of this size.

— Well, Jonathan, we’ve already found the people. We’ve had the joy this week to show casing it to probably over 10,000 people from around the world. Oasis is already selling very well as the Allure of the Seas. So, great thing is that everything these ships have to offer means that more and more people are trying cruising for the first time.

The Allure of the Seas is an exciting ship with some amazing features but she is also huge and that could put off some of the more traditional cruises out there. But I think she’s going to be a huge success with families, groups of friends and particularly those who want to try cruising for the first time.’
