а нельзя было закончить пост более позитивно, а то в конце: развод, смерть…
Можно было, но в этой статье хотелось осветить лексику, определяющую семью и родственные связи, по максимуму. Да и начинать пост с развода и смерти тоже не было желания. Пришлось следовать обычной системе — от рождения и до отхода в мир иной:)

Тоня, второе предложение — But my friends call me Tonya. Далее про семью: We are a family of three. Вместо «сидеть в кафе» лучше использовать фразовый глагол «to go out» — выйти прогуляться, проводить время где-то.

Здравствуйте, Майя. Начать рассказ о семье можно с нескольких предложений о себе, затем плавно перейдите к составу вашей семьи, продолжите о братьях и сестрах, а потом коснитесь родителей, их профессий и занятости. Закончить можно словами о том, какие отношения у вас внутри семьи.

I want to tell you some words about my family. My family is not big. Besides me, it consists of three persons: a mother, a father, a sister. We have also a domestic animal. It is a big gray fluffy cat, which rather like the Cheshire Cat from tale by Lewis Carroll.
From start I introduce my mother. She is good-looking. She is slim of medium height. She has brown hair, light brown eyes, friendly smile and soft voice. My mother is a chemist, but before she long time has been a housewife. She like her job and I think it is really interesting to work in laboratory. During her workday she discus projects and takes part in water analysis for cleaning it. She spends much time in her work, and sometimes comes home late, but she newer puts the family in the background. She not just keeps home in clean and order but always finds times to be with us. She is kind and clever and I really enjoy her company.
My father is an engineer. He is in his mid-fifties and he is already an pensioner, but he extends to work. In free time he likes to read books and newspapers, watches interesting TV programs, so we always get to know last news. You can discus almost anything with him. He doesn’t cook in the kitchen , but he is a master of cooking shashlik. He has a great recipe which he tells it nobody. Sometimes he is good helper for mother because he performs chores.
My sister is a dentist. She is thirty.Her name is Ira. She is cheerful and has a great sense of humor. She likes to tell about funny stories from her job or her life. We have a lot in common and get on really well. But we are also unlike as in appearance: she is short, some plump, has some freckles, as in taste in fashion: she usual wears tame and same monotonous clothes. So she doesn’t like to choose anything. Ira is married and prepares to become a mother. We are all glad for her and wait importunity for an appearance of the baby.
As my sister and me have moved from family’s home we have the opportunity to visit parents only at weekends. In summer we prefer to spend time in the country, where we have a rest, look after the vegetable garden and grow the flowers. And in the evening we gather together and talks about something or watches lovely films.

11. You can discuss almost everything with him. He can cook shashlik perfectly. He has a unique recipe and he doesn’t want to share it with anybody.

14. we are unlike in appearance (as не нужно). She is a bit plump…We have different tastes. She usually wears…какую именно одежду?
15. She is expecting a baby. We are waiting for her baby to come to this world (impatiently).

Неправильно говорить — apply for help- правильнее — ask for help, seek help, resort to…
apply for — употребляется тогда, когда надо подать заявление (в письменном виде)
