Немногим более месяца осталось до знаменательной даты – Всемирного дня Земли (Всемирный день окружающей среды – World Earth Day), который мы отмечаем 22 апреля. Однако, есть опасность, что спустя несколько сотен лет в этой сфере праздновать нам будет нечего, так как мы постепенно уничтожаем нашу планету, забывая о том, что такого второго мира, на который мы могли бы беззаботно переместиться, попросту не существует. Мы и только мы ответственны за экологические проблемы Земли (ecological problems). Поэтому в настоящее время так актуален вопрос о защите окружающей среды (environmental protection). О чем же нам поведает экология на английском языке (ecology)?
Проблемы экологии на английском языке
Еще в древние времена люди прекрасно соседствовали с природой нашей планеты, используя ее ресурсы (use the resources), не причиняя вреда (not to do any harm). Но с развитием общества, науки, технологий (the development of science and technology) наши потомки очень скоро обнаружат, что мы безрассудно растрачивали (squander) и загрязняли (defile / pollute) их наследие (inheritance). Как сказал профессор Калифорнийского университета Рэймонд Дасманн: «Мы все обеспокоены началом третьей мировой войны, возможно ядерной (nuclear world war). Но третья мировая у нас уже началась – мы сражаемся с природой (fight against the environment). Более того, мы побеждаем!».
Все виды организмов (species), кроме человека, адаптируются к законам окружающей среды (adapt to the laws of nature), и лишь мы – существа разумные – наоборот, достигли значительных успехов (achieve a remarkable feat) в подчинении законов природы в угоду себе. Мы загрязняем воздух, воду и почву (pollute air, water and land); вырубаем леса и осушаем водоемы (cut down forests and dry up rivers, lakes and ponds); уничтожаем животных и редкие виды растений (kill animals and make exotic species disappear). Все это уже давно привело к экологическому кризису (ecological crysis).
Но ресурсы планеты не безграничны (limited resources). За последние двадцать лет население нашей планеты выросло в шестикратном размере, и наши уровни потребления (consuming) намного превышают количество того, что может дать нам Земля. Правительство просто обязано заниматься проблемами экологии на английском языке. Но вместо того, чтобы исцелять планету (heal the planet), оно всячески способствует развитию промышленности (favor the development of industries).Но это не означает, что лишь правительство ответственно за экологическую ситуацию. Как сказал Авраам Линкольн, 16-й президент США: “With public sentiment nothing can fail; without it nothing can succeed”. Примерный перевод звучит следующим образом: «Активное отношение общества поможет решить любую проблему и достигнуть любой цели. Если же общество безразлично, успеха не будет ни в чем!». Лучше и не скажешь.
В наши дни ведущая роль в решении проблем экологии на английском языке принадлежит Организации Объединенных наций (ООН – United Nations Organization). Все главные органы и специализированные учреждения ООН уделяют много внимания проблемам окружающей среды (ecological problems of the environment). С 1949 года ООН периодически проводит конференции (hold conferences), посвященные состоянию природы на планете. Большую работу по сохранению окружающей среды (preserve the environment) проводит и организация Greenpeace.
Как актуальны вопросы экологии на английском языке сегодня, так и востребованы специальности в ВУЗах, связанные с защитой окружающей среды. Студентам таких направлений и просто людям, стремящимся узнать больше об экологии на английском языке, помогут такие издания, как «Английский язык. Мир вокруг нас. Экология. Природа. Животный мир» и «Английский язык: экология и охрана окружающей среды». Первая книга выпущена издательством «Восток-Запад», автор – Юзефович Н.Г. Good afternoon. Thank for coming. My name is Abdulazziz. My presentation about how to protect the environment. And the purpose of my presentation is share with you. First of all I want to say What does protecting the environment mean to us? Protecting the environment means not leaving a large ecological footprint on the earth. Some people spend their whole lives making sure not to pollute and ruin the earth, others want to commit to a few daily routines that will protect our environment.
A clean environment is good for everyone, but we are far from one. If we continue what we are doing, most of our natural resources would be gone and our future generations would have nothing to survive on. We should focus more on renewable energy sources like the wind, sun, and maybe even rain instead of wasting all of our fossil fuels. We also need to do more with our trash instead of burning or burying it.
People damage our environment especially human activity. We pollute water, air and soil, pollution destroys our environment and some parts of environment never recover. It slowly destroys the ozone layer which protect our from radiation. The global warming happened in our planet coming from concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere. We start having acid rains which contain dangerous chemical substance. Among the most dangerous to the environment include :smoke emission, air pollutants, and dumping waste, water pollution, exhaust gases of transport, aerosol cans, substances which deplete the ozone layer, tropical deforestation, reducing the production of oxygen in the atmosphere; overpopulation.
How we can help the environment? In order reduce the impact of human activities on the environment need comply with some conditions.
Do not throw out the rubbish (bottles, newspapers, etc.) that can be sent recycling.
- Planting more trees and plants.
- Save resources, such as water, gas.
- Do not cut down forests
- Use environmentally friendly transport and goods
The conclusion of my presentation I hope that if apply my studies to environmental problems and coming up with a solution to them, I can help to the environment make a better future for everyone.

In 2011 there was fixed another world record: 23.3 percent of population were older than 65 years. The influential Nikkei (Japanese economical newspaper) have opened new year with the article titled as “How to help society where people are living till 75 years.” Japan grows old headlong since 80s. Japanese interpret this situation as new challenge: the citizens have come to the conclusion that there is no any disaster and then they have come to the persuasion that the weakness could be transformed to the advantage.
The Japanese retiree is a phenomenon. While average lifespan round 90, the Japanese person who retire on a pension due to an old-age is fresh and full force. Experts are remarking that growing part of the capital is concentrated in old generation’s hands. The main problem for the Japanese economic is to dispose these riches.
The smartest firms are… cosmetic firms. The companies Kanebo and Shiseido produce the product lines of lipsticks, shadows and others especially for them who are older than 60. The managers say that the old women have the time and the money and ignoring of this fact would be an unforgivable mistake.
The car industry is also thinking about the retirees them not to give up driving. The concern Toyota together with the other organizations are developing the “intellectual model of the experienced driver”. It will be a type of computer which analyses a situation on a road and make a decision in driving a car. There are worked out concepts of that car: it must recognize mistaken using of pedals and begin to brake if it’s needed, it must inform the driver of the red light of the traffic lights and of the stop-line, it must stop the car when it begin moving earlier when another car is in front and so on. Old men and old women want to live like valuable persons and consider help tools as an age-related discrimination.
As to health there are many scientific researches in Japan. Instead of glasses, hearing aids and dental prosthesises the regenerating medicine will coming soon. There are some successes on this way. The next perspectives are regenerating human cells and organs.
Other directions are electronic home helpers (about which we’ve talked about on the previous lesson) and using of the Internet. The Internet could join several persons into the one group for deciding one task. It is some kind of outsourcing. Such group of the retirees represents so named a “virtual person” with the wide opportunities, – said one professor from the Tokyo University.
Another obvious ways are to accompany kids to a kindergarten or look after swimmers on the open water or to be as a guide for tourists and so on.
